What To Say When Your Child Needs The Truth

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the burden I felt as my grand boy, Jude, walked out the door to go to school. What I didn’t tell you is that right after I prayed over him and hugged him good-bye, Jude straightened his shoulders, turned to me, and recited a poem.

Middle School boys do not recite poetry!

But this was more than poetry, stronger than lyrics. It was a benediction. And the beauty of the words took my breath away.

My son, John Mark, texted me the words later that day. These are the words Jude and his dad say out loud to each other every day:

Take this, dear parents, and speak it loud and firm over your family.

This is the truth every one of us needs to hang tight to. In Middle School, in the corporate office, in the car, in front of the mirror. When we’re being evaluated and devalued. When we don’t measure up and when we achieve something amazing.

This is truth.

From my heart,

Diane
